Academic Enemies

(Major Unfavorable Trait)

This trait requires a character to have one or more traits related to academia, such as College Faculty, Disgraced Professor, Graduate Student, or Tenured Professor. It is most appropriate to settings related to academic activities, but may work in other campaigns.

A character with this trait has managed to rub some folks in their college or in their academic field the wrong way. Maybe they got chosen over them for a position, or published a paper that tore apart their own theory (or duplicated it before they themselves could publish), or discovered they had plagerized someone, or that they had misused the services of Graduate Students, or interfered in their acquiring tenure, or simply romanced the wrong person that they were interested in or had a grudge against.

Academic Enemies will seek to embarrass, discredit or disgrace a character. If the character is already disgraced they will seek to keep them that way and to make them persona non-grata in as many places as possible. They will take pen to paper and write insulting reviews of papers or books, gossip about them and tell false stories about them at inopportune times in their career.

In other words, they will seek to torment the character that has this trait. And enlist others to help with that torment. Some details about why and who this deals with would be important to work out with the GM to make it flow better into the game details.
