Code Of Honor

(Major Unfavorable Trait)

A character with this trait has a code of behavior that they will not deviate from in general, and if forced to do so by circumstance or the actions of others, will become internally stressed by doing so in such a way that it will affect their ability to function for days, weeks even years afterwards unless they feel that they can make amends.

Generally such a code includes things they feel they must do, especially protecting or preserving something greater than themselves in scope (such as a family, an organization, a tradition, a nation, the reputation of an occupation etc.). This is usually NOT related to any religious conviction.

They will also have feats or actions that are taboo, distasteful or unthinkable for them to perform (such as to lie, to cheat, to attack an enemy from behind, to harm a member of the opposite sex, to destroy a historical document, to betray a friend, to steal or some other such actions, it varies from code to code).

Failing to follow their code will have personal and possibly group or reputational repurcussions. On the personal level it will add guilt to them, which will reduce their effectiveness on all skill rolls across the board. Enough guilt and they may become useless, or may become suicidal, believing that they can only redeem their honor by killing themselves.

A code of honor has a lot of effects on self esteem, and strength of Spirit, especially when one fails to uphold the code.

Taking this trait will restrict a character since they cannot take traits that directly are in opposition of the code that the character has.
