Compulsive Liar

(Major Unfavorable Trait)

The compulsive liar embellishes their life, their stories, the information that they provide others, on a regular basis and in the telling of these embellishesments convinces themselves that they believe what they say (unless confronted with direct and unavoidable truth from an authoritarian source).

Generally they seem to be unable to help themselves, that by lying they increase their own importance, or believe that they protect themselves from retribution or blame in some way for actions. Something goes wrong they literally believe that they aren't at fault, that they didn't do it, and if caught that they can justify it all anyway.

Compulsive liars have self esteem issues, personal martyr complexes ("they always blame me for the bad things") and a tendency towards fictionalizing their life in their mind.

GMs may restrict access to this trait if they feel it would be inappropriate to a character or for a player character to have in general in a campaign, as it can be problematic at times.
