Ex-Patriot

(Major Unfavorable Trait)

A character with this trait is a stranger in a strange land, a foreigner residing in a land that is not of their birth and unable or unwilling to return to their native land. They may be disillusioned with the current state of politics and the society in general, or they may be a political refuge from their home who faces imprisonment for their viewpoints or actions in the past that were far too public.

Still they are homesick for the country in which they once lived, and can't quite fit in where they are living now or to feel that their life is on hold, waiting for changes beyond themselves to occur back home so that they might return. They may even be a soldier or spy for a now fallen regime, trapped "in the cold".

Because they are a foreigner there is a social stigma associated with their status, and they are never fully trusted by anyone that is not also an ex-patriot from their own land, except maybe other ex-patriots of other lands equally unreachable.

There may be travel, occupation, property ownership or resource access restrictions on a character with this trait, depending upon their circumstances and story.
