Gambling Addict

(Major Unfavorable Trait)

A character with this trait has a pathological gambling problem, where they are drawn to gamble on a regular basis on games of chance. It is an extreme compulsive behavior, where the character feels an inner 'thrill' when gambling that they get from no other source.

Gambling addicts, like addicts of any kind, become obsessed. They will lose huge sums of money and then gamble believing that they'll win it back and then some. They will lie to friends and family who see overly concerned, about both the activity, the reasoning and their losses. They will risk job, friendships, relationships, etc. They become Manic when involved in the activity, and use gambling as a means of getting a change of mood when depressed, bored, or unhappy for some reason.

In game terms, the character spends time, money and takes risks to be able to gamble. It doesn't matter how wealthy or poor they are, the thrill of the act is what draws them. The more they can wager the more they feel the thrill.

A player playing a character with this trait should be prepared to have constant reversals of fortune caused by this addiction, and to have the GM regularly place them in situations where the character must face temptation.
