Characters who become a member of the order of knighthood known as the 'Knight of Secrets' do so from a fairly young age. Knights are found primarily in Jarro, where the order was said to have risen historically during the period of the Opal Empire.
A knight begins by being recruited as a Squire to a Knight, trained in martial arts and then later in the magic. They combine the physical capabilities of combat in combination with their magic, often using magical aids to enhance their own body’s capabilities so that they may combat superior numbers.
Despite their conflict ability, the Knight is centered in the gathering and preservation of knowledge. This of course, in recent years, has brought them into conflict with the aliens, just as they have always ended in conflict with the desire of politicians and governments that rule by restriction of information.
Historically it is said that in the waning years of the Opal Empire the knights perceived the growing anger of the gods and went about moving large amounts of books out of the Empire to hidden places to protect it for future generations. Many of these locations, and their protectors were lost or misplaced by the order in the Chaos that followed, and the organization of the knights is poor in connection to itself in this day and age.
All Spellcastings of this path require Hand Gestures. The magic system of the Knights is known as "Dynamic Mysticism", and they must take the skills of Brawling, Staff and Acrobatics to compliment their magical art.
The must take a specialized Code Of Honor trait to protect sources of knowledge, especially books, libraries and teachers of magic above all else, even above their own lives.
No magic that produces Transformations on non-living objects. A Knight of secrets cannot create magic items. They use items/foci sparingly in their spells, and when they do it is often a matter of taking an ordinary item or an item of opportunity to use. Many of their spells require Concentration or take long periods of time to perform or produce results.
No additional Mystic Path of a religion associated with the gods of the Opal Empire may be taken, since the Knights specifically broke with the gods and their religious institutions centuries ago. This does not preclude them from non-Opal religious organization memberships.
Knight Of Secrets Spells and 1 automatic free training rank in Mystic Places and Mystic Creatures skills. All Knights of Secrets are honor bound to freely give training of new spells they acquire/research to any other Knight that asks for such in person.
