The name goes back for centuries, the true origin obscured in the many tales told across a landscape as wide as the world.
A landless knight. A fallen prince. A dishonored priest. A Lady Pirate. An assasin in motley. A soldier of lost legions. A highwayman turned hero. A priestess turned assasin. A harlequin with a flasing blade. A merchant turned magician. A burglar without compare. A dancer with the soul of a revolutionary. A martyr that could not die. A madman cursed by the gods. A tyrant that abandoned his kingdom. Or maybe none of these is where it began.
In the end there are few facts, many stories, and a name that is whispered in fear.
Now you wear that name.
...And so does everyone else gathered in this room!
Welcome to Sylvia, capital city of Perdrix, sometimes called the City of Enlightenment. It is a hub of transport, commerce, communication and the arts between two continents and the Belcairn Island Chain.
It is also filled with secrets, strange bargainings and rumors of war and intrigue. Diplomats, spies, merchants, smugglers and even the occasional pirate can be found passing thru on a regular basis. Life is not as valuable as it should be, the common man is exploited by the rich and powerful and there is a great need for your services.
The Silver Spider is known as a troubleshooter, a recoverer of lost goods, an assassin, and a protector of the common man when the rich and powerful become the vain glorious and spiteful.
Your mentor has been training you for a year now to take his place, as age and enemies were likely to catch up to him if he continued himself as the spider.
What you've just discovered, is that there isn't one Silver Spider. A little thing your mentor forgot to tell you.... as he did all the others here. He's been training a number of people to take his place. You are legion!
Your mentor, Ivan Ghardain, has been arrested while on an information gathering mission. His past, as a professional jewel thief, has come back to haunt him.
Peter Lavar, a trusted friend of his and master tailor contacted each of you to meet him here so that at last the secret of the many spiders could be revealed, and to give each of you that which Ivan had left behind for you to continue as the Silver Spider.
The Legend must continue. It is your glory, it is your curse, and it is your destiny.
