An ancient, secretive and powerful organization, the Society claims that it’s lineage goes back to the beginning of the invention of writing and symbols. They claim to have stolen some of the secret symbols of the gods and the knowledge to use them to manipulate all life forms, and the remains of life forms.
The order is lead by a pair of co-leaders, one male and one female, known as the lord and lady. All who join swear fealty and obedience to them. They seek to expand the power of the order, keep it hidden from the common folk, manipulate world politics, reduce the power of technology and religious magic, drive out the alien influence, conquer death and gain the power to usurp the gods.
The Society is found only on Jarro and Kamande, and prefers to avoid high technological areas of the worlds or places with strong religious organizations, though they do have individual members who act as spies for the lord and lady in such places to keep them informed.
All Spells require the use of Hand Gestures.
Must take Tatooing as a skill.
All Spells of the Society of Horn & Bone utilize an item or "foci" of some sort, but the exact nature and type varies from spell to spell (and may be either specifically designed for the spell or in some cases a ‘object of opportunity’). Knives, graves, corpses, animal or human bones, animal horns, teeth, preserved bodily organs, skin, blood, cremation ash and other remains are used along with candles and other symbols.
They cannot cast spells that Heal (Themselves or others), Summon living beings or creatures (except vermin, insects and rodents). They cannot use spells that increase their maximum wound capacity.
They cannot cast spells that create anything that is not drawing from that which is or once was alive
(So they cannot, for example, cast a spell to make a sword of steel, but may shape a bone into
a knife or cane). They cannot create fire, lightning, or other elemental forces, nor manipulate them
magically.
Members all have a disctive feature of Tattoos of Power (somewhere on body).
If healing spells are cast on them by someone else, they receive damage from them, rather than healing.
The orgainization, in many places, is perceived as Necromancers, which can be highly negative in how folks react to them, or even illegal in many places.
The cannot take any Mystic Religious Path.
Spells Of Horn & Bone and all members get Rapid Healing as a trait (no need to balance).
